Please Welcome Miss Arkansas USA 2015... Leah Blefko

Hey there readers!

My name is Leah Blefko, Megan has allowed me to be a guest writer on her blog and I couldn't be more excited to share with y'all the things I have learned by having Megan as my official hair sponsor as Miss Arkansas USA 2015.
From the get go of being crowned in early October, I have seen Megan at least once a week in the salon. You're probably wondering what could I possibly need done once a week in the salon, but that's just the thing - I don't always have a reason to go in when it comes to hair, but making visits to see Megan never fails to make my day. On top of Megan being an incredible woman and friend, the girl knows her hair and makeup. In the past two months, I have learned so many things from her that I can't believe I have gone my whole life not knowing.

One of the first products Megan introduced me to is the Dry Texturing Spray from the Oribe line at Freshair. I absolutely LOVE this product, not only does it smell amazing it is perfect for any kind of style you are going for. My favorite way to use it is after I blow dry my hair I just lift areas of my hair and spray the product throughout giving it a more full and "textured" look.

Another miracle working product Megan has introduced me to is the Spilt End Seal, also from the Oribe line. Now with this product, I told Megan I felt like I wasn't distributing it through my hair correctly or evenly, because Megan is a hair genius she quickly responded by asking me if I owned a "wet brush." I didn't own a wet brush, nor did I know what that was. She went and grabbed one and she told me to put the product into the wet brush then brush it through my damp hair and it will evenly spread the product. After I began doing this I can see such a difference in my ends, they look and feel so much healthier keeping them strong during the cold-weather months!

Speaking of the cold weather, it can be very hard to keep your hair feeling strong and soft during this weather - but leave it to Megan to have an answer to any hair problem you have!
Last week I went into the salon and Megan gave my hair a deep conditioning treatment. Not only was the deep conditioning relaxing, but it left my hair feeling fabulous! I would recommend getting these periodically, they aren't very expensive and they do wonders for your hair!

These are just a few things I have learned from her and I have no doubt she will continue to teach me new things as she is such an active learner with her styling, always finding new ways to improve her work to help her clients.
I ask Megan every time I leave salon, "What would I do without you?"

Thanks y'all!
Leah Blefko

Makeup, Makeup, and More Makeup

Hello Readers,

I have been doing a ton a makeup applications in the salon lately. They have been for all occasions... senior pictures, christmas pictures, holiday parties, banquets, weddings, etc.. And one of my favorite things is to see someone's facial expression after I turn their chair towards the mirror and show them their makeup.

Last week I did hair and makeup for one of our fabulous receptionist, Corrie. She was going to a banquet to honor the Arkansas Razorback Football team. She told me the outfit she was gonna wear and that helped me determine the look we were gonna go for.

In the first part of the video you will see me apply Corrie's foundation and then do some highlighting and contouring. After that I will start on her eyes. I wanted to go for more of a smokey eye, but not a super crazy one because Corrie doesn't normally wear a ton of makeup... I didn't want to freak her out. I will get her smokey eye half way done and then add eyeliner and eyelashes. After I do that I will go back through and finish out her eyeshadow. I do this because it is easier for me to see how things are going to look when we get to the finish line. It is much easier to add makeup then it is to take it off. Then I will add a touch more highlighting under her eye and then add blush and lip stick.

It's not the greatest quality video but I hope you enjoy it anyway!

Winter is here!

Hello Readers,

Winter is here and based on the forecast for this weekend I think its gonna be a fun one! With winter comes all the amazing clothes, scarves, hats and headbands! If you can't already tell winter is by far my favorite season! So I want to go over some cute hairstyles that are perfect for those winter headbands and the perfect products to pair with it!

1. Fishtail Braid

Many people are thrown off by the fishtail braid, but I think it is one of the easiest braids to do! And it is the perfect pairing with the a winter headband! Below is a little how to on the fishtail!

A go to product for me when braiding is Oribe's Dry Texture Spray. It helps to add that good grip needed to hold onto the hair especially if it is really clean already. Just spray some on the hair and braid away!

2. Bohemian Waves

I am a huge fan of wavy hair. The easiest way for me to achieve this look is to curl the hair with a flat iron and then after letting the hair cool and then to take a paddle brush and softly brush out the hair until it is to the desired wave! But do whatever works best for you. I also like to pair this look with Oribe's Apres Beach because it ads that extra texture that give it that "I woke up like this" look... Beyonce fans you know what I am talking about!

3. Top Knot/Bun
I live in a top knot 75% of the winter season because it is a easy go to for these headbands. You can wear your hair with the headband get somewhere and take it off and your hair will still look amazing without it. Plus I just love any kind of top knot or wrap around bun. I like to pair this style with Oribe's Superfine Hairspray to help keep those stray hairs in place.

And ALL the products mentioned above are available in travel size! So they are perfect to throw in your purse or to pack in your luggage when you are off to visit your family for the holidays!

Treat Yourself

Hello Readers,

The crazy holiday season is sneaking up on us and with that comes the stress of family pictures, gift buying, family gatherings, and holiday parties. It's the time of year that we all love, but get stressed about. The perfect remedy to this issue is treating yourself to the PERFECT girls weekend!

1. Blowout
Stop by Freshair and treat yourself to you a blowout! We have the absolute BEST brands of products and the perfect way to test them out is to come in and let us show you how it all works. We will shampoo and condition your hair with an Oribe, R+Co, or Keune product that best fits the needs of your hair. Then we will pick only the best styling products to achieve the look your going for and while doing that we try to explain why we are doing what we are doing so that you can achieve this perfect look at home too!

2. Conditioning Treatment
While you are at the salon for your blowout ask your stylist about a conditioning treatment. With the colder weather getting here our hair will suffer. It will start to get dried out and frizzy. We have the perfect solution. We will shampoo your hair and then put our treatment on and then put you under the dryer. The heat allows your hair cuticle to open up and let the treatment in and really conditioner the hair. After that we will rinse your hair and the blowout process will begin.

3. Makeup Application
Come by Freshair or go to your favorite makeup counter and treat yourself by learning something new. A lot of us (I am guilty of this as well too) get into that rut were we don't try new things with our makeup. We just do the same thing every day. Ask them to do your makeup and to explain what they are doing and how they are doing it. You will learn new things and tips on how to do your makeup differently at home.

4. NWA Boutique Show

Spilt End Seal

Hello Readers,

There is a new amazing product that Oribe has recently put out that I think every girl should have in her line up of products! It's called Oribe Split End Seal.
Not only does it make your color look a little more vibrant, but it is also clinically proven to reduce up to ninety-four percent of split ends after one use! That's right ONE USE!!! It also reduces breakage by up to sixty-five percent. The special polymer blend and Carob Tree exact among other amazing ingredients are to thank for the awesomeness that is inside this little bottle. The polymer and the Carob Tree extract helps to form amino acids around the hair shaft and help to heal the cuticle and bond split ends together. The polymer also helps to prevent further damage to the hair.

I am sure you are wondering how difficult this product is to use, but guess what? All you have to do is put the product in your hair while it is still damp and then style as normal and let the product do the rest!

This product falls under the Beautiful Color line so it pairs great with Oribe's Beautiful Color Shampoo and Conditioner. You can also throw in the masque if your hair is in need. I also like to pair it with the Gold Lust Shampoo and Conditioner when my hair is needing a little extra TLC!

Smith and Cult

Hello Readers,

Have you ever heard of Hard Candy Nail Polish?

Well, its creator Dineh Mohajer is back with her partner Jeanne Chavez and they are better than ever. Smith and Cult is a high end line with thirty 30 shades in it including a top coat and a base coat. This line is one of the most creative and fun lines I have come across.

"Gay Ponies Dancing in the Snow"

The name of the polishes have some and interesting names. Anywhere from "Dirty Baby" to "Bitter Buddhist" to "Gay Ponies Dancing in the Snow".... and no I didn't just make that up. Along with this line comes an illustrated journal that tells little stories about six of the existing shades.

The eye catching bottle is a small circular glass bottle with a silver dented cap and the polish inside is to last (chip free) for seven days. Not only do they have the unique name factor to their line that makes you curious, but they also have what they call the "Five Free Formula" that draws you in and keeps you coming back for more. The "Five Free Formula" means it has been formulated without he harsh chemicals Dibutyl Phthalate, Toluene, Formaldehyde, Formaldehyde Resin and Camphor. This is a very good thing for my fellow nail bitters out there. Each polish is $18 dollars. Not only do they have the existing thirty shades and plan to introduce news shades quarterly, but they also are set to launch a lip gloss line in the summer of 2015.

Now you can't go down the street and buy this little bottle of shiny goodness, because it's only offered in specific salons. Only 250 salons where given the oppurtunity to carry this unique line and Freshair was one of them. We are also the only salon in the state of Arkansas to have this privilege. So don't wait! Stop by the salon to have your chance and using this nail polish.

Miss America Favorites

Hello Readers,

As you all know I am very involved in working with pageants across the state of Arkansas... and the Super Bowl of Pageants happened last night. Yes, I am talking about Miss America. So I am gonna give you a recap of some of my favorites!
Photos Courtesy of Miss America Organization

1. Miss Arkansas - Ashton Campbell

Of course our home state girl is gonna be in my top four! She looked great all week! She killed it in every phase of competition. She looked fabulous all week and her beauty team helped with that! Two amazing women were back there with her and they are also some good friends of mine, Jane White and Lauren Colclasure. My favorite look the entire week was her talent hair and makeup! Her hair pulled back into a half up half down style was perfect for the neckline of the dress and the song she sang. Then the soft pink lipstick was the icing on the cake. ELEGANT is the perfect word to describe her look. Well done Lauren and Jane... as usual! And congratulations Ashton on Second Runner-Up to MISS AMERICA!

2. Miss Mississippi - Jasmine Murray

If you didn't watch last night you seriously missed out on an AMAZING Talent! She performed Christina Aguilera's version of "Something's Got a Hold of Me". Jasmine was on the 8th season of American Idol and made the top 13. She brought that Miss America stage down last night! And then to top it off her hair looked amazing all week. She had the cascading waterfall of curls and it looked so full and classic. Jasmine made the Top 10.

3. Miss Florida - Victoria Cowen

I absolutely loved that she wore her hair straight for competition. She stood out from the crowd, but it wasn't that board straight stuck to her head straight. It had the perfect amount of volume and was curled under just a touch on the ends. Bravo Florida for rocking the straight hair! Victoria danced to "Note to God" and was so elegant and she made every move look effortless. She was awarded Third Runner Up to Miss America.

4. New York- Kira Kazantsev

Miss New York was crowned Miss America last night and while many were surprised, I wasn't. Yes her talent wasn't the best there... but here is the thing she is UNIQUE. She had the time of her life on stage and the judges saw that. And what a lot of people don't know is that this kind of pageant is won in the interview room. Those judges fell in love with her which is not surprising after learning more about Kira. She is fluent in three languages (English, Russian, and Spanish), graduated from Hoftstra University Honors College with a triple major (Political Science, Global Studies, and Geography) and she has already been accepted into the Law School at Notre Dame. So now you can see she that is a sharp and probably won the pageant as soon as she walked out of the interview room. Now for her hair... her pony tail for her talent was SPOT ON... the curls were bouncy and the bang framed her face perfectly! And guess who her hair and makeup team was? They were also TEAM ARKANSAS... Jane White and Lauren Colclasure. Congratulations Kira!

Get Ready Hog Fans... It's Game Day!

Hello Readers,

Football season is officially in full swing and for all my southern belles out there that means tailgating, game day outfits, game day hair and finding that perfect shade of razorback red lipstick to call the hogs in! Today I want to talk about the perfect game day hair!

For those hot and muggy game days your go to hairstyles can be a top knot, high ponytail, or side braid! These are perfect because they are not only cute and stylish with any outfit, but they will keep you nice and cool! Products that are must haves for the looks are R+CO's Dallas Shampoo and Conditioner, Oribe's Dry Texture Spray, and either Oribe's Superfine Hairspray or R+CO's Outer Space Flexible Hairspray.

1. R+Co's Dallas Shampoo and Conditioner
This set will help to achieve that BIG Texas hair with the perfect amount of sleekness to it. The ingredients in it help to create the perfect balance of healthy and voluminous hair. The cypress root oil helps to nourish dry and/or damaged hair while the advanced polymers not only creates body and volume, but ALSO helps to reduce static.

2. Oribe's Dry Texture Spray
The Dry Texture is gonna help absorb any extra oils and add that extra volume every southern belle loves. This is a product that is a TOP SELLER at our salon and we think it is a must have!

3. Oribe's Superfine Hairspray or R+CO Outer Space Flexible Hairspray
Superfine is for those girls who like a good hold and Outer Space is for girls you just like a little bit of a softer hold. Either way is good... It just comes down to preference.

Now for those game days that are a little cooler because the colder air is starting to come in so I would recommend that you show off your gorgeous locks and wear you hair down! But the cooler air means dry and frizzy hair for some so use some moisturizing products to help your hair have that extra shine and softness! From R+Co you should go with the Atlantis Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner and from Oribe I would recommend Moisture and Control Shampoo and Conditioner AND then this amazing little product in a green bottle called Soft Dry Conditioner Spray.

1. Atlantis Shampoo and Conditioner
This duo adds the perfect amount of hydration to your hair. The combination of ingredients helps to achieve the perfect amount of hydration for moisture deprived hair. The witch hazel helps to balance out hydration levels, the vegetable protein increases the moisture content, and the rosemary maintains scalp health and removes build up of product.

2. Moisture and Control Shampoo and Conditioner
This shampoo and conditioner will cleanse and nourish the hair and leave the hair looking sleek and polished. The amber extract provides an antioxidant that conditions and strengthens the hair while the silicone complex gives the hair a control factor.

3. Soft Dry Conditioner Spray
This is a product that you can spray on your ends and it creates an instant softness. The cotton complex in the product is what creates the instant softness that I absolutely love. The argan oil and the neem oil also help to hydrate and nourish the hair while creating shine and eliminating frizz.

Hopefully this will help you achieve that perfect game day hair! Woo Pig Sooie!

Concealer 101

Hello Readers,Today I want to talk about all that your concealer can do for you! I am all about having products that has multiple uses. And concealer of any brand is one of those items! Its a  must have! I usually keep two things of concealer on hand at all times because I never want to end up being without it. I would be so lost in the makeup world.

1. Concealing BlemishesObviously one of the main reasons we use concealer is to conceal blemishes. No shocker there! It is good to cover up those zits we get from time to time. It is also good for covering up those pesky dark circles under your eyes! If you tend to have those blemishes that are really red then you can use a concealer that has a green base… Green counteracts the red!

2. HighlightingNow when it comes to highlighting and contouring some people will get a second foundation that is lighter to do there highlighting or they use a lighter powder. But I am what I like to do use is drum roll please…… CONCEALER! If you have any questions about using concealer as a highlighter you can check out my youtube video about highlighting and contouring! In the picture below where your see the white you can use concealer and bronzer where you see the dark. It will change your world if you start doing this!

3. Prime your EyelidsI know that people at makeup counters and makeup stores drill in your head that you need to buy an eyelid primer, but in reality you don’t! You can use your concealer for that... it works the exact same way! Just dab a little on you eyelid and then take one of those beautiful little tools called the Beauty Blender (you know the thing that look like a squishy egg) or a makeup brush and blend it in. Then proceed by putting on your eyeshadow as usual!

4. Prime your lip.
Every girl hates have to constantly check to make sure your lipstick in still there and not faded to some funky color! Well the answer to your problem lies in that beautiful little tube of concealer. All you have to do it take your concealer brush and put the concealer on like you are applying lip stick. Then apply your lipstick right on top of that. After you do that blot with a tissue. Then reapply your lipstick again… and BAM long lasting lip stick!
Note: Apply the concealer lightly on your lips. DO NOT cake it on like your would when trying to cover a blemish. It will start to feel a little heavy.

Happy Concealing!

Spice Up Your Back to School Look

Hello Readers,

It’s that time of year again… back to school! Everyone wants to change up there look a little before the new school year starts, but most people don’t want the commitment that comes with a new color or highlights! So today we are going to talk about a few little things you can do to spice up your look!

1. Bangs
Bangs are something you can do to that can make a huge difference. It only takes five minutes to do! There are so many options to with bangs …You can do a longer side swept bang, a short side swept bang, a textured side wept bang, a blunt straight across bang, or even a textured straight across bang! SOO many options! But you must remember that some bangs are not for everyone! A lot of it is based on your face shape, hair texture, and your styling routine! You should ask your hairstylist if its
a good idea for you or not!

NOTE: PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do not try to cut your own bangs! You have no idea how many times clients come in and say I tried to cut my own bangs and it didn't turn out too well.

2. Layers
Another easy way to change things up are layers. You go with long subtle layers, textured shorter layers, or anything in between. Layers can help to lighten up thick hair and make it more manageable. They can also make thin hair look fuller. And you can put layers in any hair length… It doesn't matter if its down to your butt or if it is a pixie cut!
3. Shaping your eyebrows
Have you ever seen Princess Diaries?

I remember watching that movies when I was growing up. And that is a perfect example of what shaping your eyebrows can do for you. They can change your overall look drastically! But please remember that if you are going to do this at home… DO NOT go crazy with the plucking! I don’t want you to end up with one hair all the way across! If you are unsure of how to shape your eyebrow book an appointment with your hairstylist and let us get your shape going and you can always maintain at home by tweezing the stray hairs here and there!
